We are seeking a Manager of Environmental Affairs for our Corporate Office located in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Position Summary:
The Manager of Environmental Affairs manages the organization's environmental programs in compliance with federal and state regulations. Develops, implements, and manages environmental programs, policies, and procedures. Responsible for environmental compliance and for all CSP facilities. Support all CSP facilities for environmental requirements. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Coaches and influences the work of others in environmental areas within CSP facilities. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Reports to Executive Director of Environmental, Health & Safety.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Review Title V air permit for CSP facilities. Coordinates with all CSP sites to ensure compliance with air permits.
  • Follow-up and Negotiate Title V (air) Renewal Permits for CSP facilities as required by the Clean Air Act under Title V major facilities.
  • Review draft permits, preliminary permits and final permits and modify accordingly to ensure compliance with permit terms & conditions. Periodically communicate with EPA to build good relationships with EPA staff.
  • Prepare and submit Quarterly, Semi-annual and Annual Reports for all CSP’s applicable facilities to State/Federal EPA per EPA Title V Air Permit.
  • Prepare/oversee and submit Annual Chemical Inventory reports for all CSP facilities to State, Fire Chief and Local Emergency Planning Committee per Community Right-to-Know Section 311/312.
  • Prepare and submit Annual Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reports for all CSP facilities to Federal and State EPA per Community Right-to-Know Section 313.
  • Prepare/oversees and submit Annual/biennial Hazardous Waste Reports for all CSP facilities to State/Federal EPA as required by Resource Conservation & Recovery Act (RCRA) for Hazardous Wastes. 
  • Conduct Annual Environmental Compliance Evaluation for all CSP facilities per ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.  Provide other ISO 14001 support to CSP facilities as required/requested.
  • Assist EHS Plant Staff, Corporate Materials and Science Team Members on proper handling procedures with chemical materials.
  • Conduct an Annual Environmental related Training for applicable employees at the CSP plants as required per various environmental Laws.
  • Oversee OSHA-required in-plant and employee Air Testing at all applicable CSP facilities.  
  • Prepare and submit Waste Water Discharge monitoring reports for all applicable CSP facilities to State EPA and Local Agency.
  • Implement Chemical approval process and Miscellaneous Health, Safety & Environmental activities as required under various Laws and CSP Policies.
  • Oversees MSDS/SDS (Material Safety Data Sheets/Safety Data Sheets) on all SMC manufactured at various CSP facilities.
  • Oversees compliance with customers’ requirements such as RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substance), Conflict Minerals Restriction, and other customer driven requirement on environment.
  • Coordinate Environmental Management System (EMS) – ISO 14001 for all applicable CSP sites. 
  • Oversees SPCC (Spill Prevention and Counter Control) plan, HAZMAT (Hazardous Material) Security, Hazardous Waste Manifests for all applicable CSP sites.
  • Coordinate air and water inspections by EPA where applicable.
  • Work with state/ federal EPA/OSHA to resolve environmental, health and safety related issues.
  • Responsible for ensuring that customer requirements are met.
  • Coordinate Phase 1 and or Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessment for new property.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Science (Chemistry, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering).
  • Minimum of 10 years of EHS experience on a higher level.  
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state and local environmental, health & safety laws to ensure the organization’s compliance with all regulations.
  • Minimum of ten years’ Health, Safety, and Environmental experience, preferably in a Manufacturing (Molding/Assembly/Painting) facility including at least 5 years of multi-site responsibility preferred.
  • Demonstrated strength with analytical/problem solving, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of Chemicals and Chemical Processing.
  • Management experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Frequent travel, including overnight, is required.
  • Occasional exposure to noise, fumes, process temperatures and chemicals, and moving equipment in a manufacturing environment
