Our overall system approach (CAE design optimization, raw material selection, molding process, bonding, and prime/paint) results in the design and production of the highest quality composite parts in the marketplace today.

We are seeking a Lab Technician for our Research and Development Team at our corporate office in Auburn Hills, MI.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Evaluates raw materials for use in Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) materials.

  • Measures physical properties of SMC pastes and molded plaques.

  • Assists in process and material development in the manufacturing facilities.

  • Analyzes defects in customer products using microscopic analysis.

  • Collects data from laboratory and plant trials.

  • Prepares and distributes applicable technical reports.

  • Documents necessary data relating to new raw materials of product approvals, in-plant trials and laboratory SMC formulations.

  • As directed, performs research, testing, data gathering, measurements, or engineering analysis in an office, laboratory or manufacturing environment.

  • Performs documented repetitive testing or tasks under limited supervision. 

  • Responsible for ensuring that customer requirements are met.


  • High School Diploma or GED required.  An Associate's degree is preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Access, Project, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Must be a self-starter and independent problem solver.

Physical Requirements:

  • Works in an office, laboratory or plant environment.  May occasionally lift or carry items (up to 40 pounds).

  • Job requires sitting, standing, and walking, mostly at the incumbent’s discretion.

  • Normal visual acuity required for computer work.

  • Local and overnight travel may be required to CSP facilities.

  • Position requires frequent exposure to noise, temperature extremes, moving parts, fumes, etc. in a laboratory or plant environment.
